Award-Winning Setting

This combination of natural desert setting, architectural design and non-intrusive footprint culminated in We-Ko-Pa Golf Club’s 2002 Golden Nugget Award given each year at one of the industry’s most prestigious events held during PCBC (formerly the Pacific Coast Builders Conference). Gold Nugget winners share one common denominator: excellence and innovation in addressing complex design/build issues.

We-Ko-Pa Clubhouse

Woven Into the Natural Land

Inspired by the Yavapai culture, We-Ko-Pa’s Clubhouse features “desert vernacular” styling with unique details that draw inspiration from as well as complement the spectacular natural surroundings. Sloped entry walls and a wood beam canopy create a canyon-like entryway, followed by a water and fire feature that symbolizes the importance of woven baskets to the Yavapai culture. The clubhouse features stylized detailing and is oriented to take advantage of the many spectacular views of the McDowell Mountains, Red Mountain, Four Peaks and the Superstitions.

Designed by noted Scottsdale-based architect Doug Fredrikson, the two main sections of the clubhouse are separated by a shady breezeway and patio that opens to the Sonoran Desert. The golf shop sits on one side and the We-Ko-Pa Grille sits on the other side. Floor-to-ceiling windows, stacked stone, metal details and the sloping roof held up by distinctively shaped beams offer a clean modern feel that still holds true to the age-old traditions of the Yavapai.
