The humble origins of the Buffalo wing begin in, you guessed it, Buffalo, New York, where a small, family-run establishment called the Anchor Bar created the first plate of Buffalo wings in 1964. Since then, the mighty buffalo wing has been a staple of pub and sports bars for more than a half century. Close your eyes and try to imagine a super bowl party or a pay-per-view boxing match with friends without the tangy tickle of buffalo sauce. It’s a dystopian nightmare, isn’t it?
What started out as a special, one-off dressing for chicken wings has turned into a phenomenon with nearly every type of the food in the American diet having at least one “buffalo” iteration. It’s on pizza, burgers, salads, tacos, vegetables, and everything in between. It comes in squeeze bottles, glass bottles, cans, packets, and cartons. It’s even made inroads to cauliflower! To each their own, we suppose. But to be sure, if you’re dining at or ordering takeout from a restaurant in the United States, buffalo sauce is on the menu at least in one form or fashion.
The We-Ko-Pa Grille has its very own buffalo sauce made from scratch and we try to keep it where it’s supposed to be – on chicken. Our Buffalo Wings come in one-pound plates and are served with traditional buffalo sauce, Ken’s Ranch Dressing, celery and carrots.
Feeling a sandwich? The buffalo crispy chicken sandwich at the We-Ko-Pa Grille is smothered in our house buffalo sauce and topped with crumbled bleu cheese and served on a double knotted Kaiser roll with lettuce, tomato and sliced red onion.
To get even a little more green in your lunch, try the buffalo chicken salad with crispy fried chicken breast sliced and tossed in our own buffalo sauce laid atop fresh romaine lettuce, bleu cheese crumbles and diced tomatoes with Ken’s Ranch Dressing on the side.
No dining room? No problem. The We-Ko-Pa Grille is open for takeout from 6 am to 5 pm. Call 480-789-8713 to place your order today.
