Spring Training in the Valley of the Sun. There’s just nothing better.
It’s March in Scottsdale. The weather is the envy of the entire world. The best baseball players on the planet – both the names you know and a few rising stars – are in town to work out the kinks before a long 162 game season. And, if you’re a golfer, Spring Training might just be the excuse you need to play the most incredible golf courses in the southwest during your “down time” in between games.
There are a million choices out there and a million ways to do Spring Training in the Valley, but there’s really only one way to do it absolutely, perfectly, 100-percent right. How, you ask? Make We-Ko-Pa your home base of operations.
Let this quick post be your definitive guide on how to make the most out of your Spring Training trip to Scottsdale. First, a little housekeeping. We’re assuming you have a favorite team you want to see. We’re also assuming you want to maximize your fun when you’re in town. We’re assuming you like to play golf, since you’re on our mailing list or on our website – thanks, by the way – and we’re assuming you’re coming with friends. All good? Good.
We-Ko-Pa Golf Club – Two of Arizona’s Very Best
You’re looking for golf, so let’s start there. We-Ko-Pa Golf Club is Arizona’s Ultimate Golf Experience. Two courses – Saguaro and Cholla – which are currently ranked the No. 1 (Saguaro) and No. 8 (Cholla) in the state and have held those positions for more than a decade. There are no homes or roads lining the fairways. Conditions are always perfect – especially when you’re in town – and the differences in style-of-play between the courses are so imaginative, you’d be hard-pressed to find anything like it anywhere. And if you forget anything when packing, the We-Ko-Pa Golf Shop has you covered with all the best gear, gadgets, apparel and ancillaries you might need all available for sale on property.
The Digs, Entertainment and Dining
How about AAA Four-Diamond accommodations, a full Vegas-style casino floor complete with Craps, Blackjack, Roulette and all the slot staples you’re used to? Sound good? You bet! And if you and your group want to make golf the “theme” of the trip outside of your Cactus League plans, We-Ko-Pa Casino Resort offers golf-themed suites for groups of four complete with two rooms, four beds and a connected living area complete with a kitchen and lounge room.
“But,” you say, “We-Ko-Pa blogwriter, we need options for exceptional dining. My group will need to go somewhere else for that. Right?”
Au contraire, mon frère. Ember, We-Ko-Pa’s flagship restaurant is one of the Phoenix Area’s best steak and chop houses, serving up Snake River Farms Wagyu beef, top-notch seafood, an award-winning wine list and signature cocktails to satisfy all the foodies in your party.
We’re getting warmer, aren’t we?
Proximity to Cactus League Action
Here’s where the rubber meats the road, people. In total, six different Cactus League Venues are located within 30 minutes of We-Ko-Pa Golf Club including the Giants at Scottsdale Stadium, Oakland A’s at Hohokam Stadium, the LA Angels at Tempe Diablo, the Arizona Diamondbacks and Colorado Rockies at Salt River Fields and, of course, the amazingly popular and well-traveled Chicago Cubs – whose fans come in droves to escape the harsh midwestern winter.
“Again,” you say. “We-Ko-Pa blogwriter, I am not a fan of those teams. My team is in town, but why would I stay at We-Ko-Pa and drive all that way to see my team. You’re not thinking this through, are you? Surely, I’ll need another place to stay.”
Stop calling me Shirley. Do you really think we’d leave you high and dry like that?
Here is a comprehensive list of all the Cactus League teams and when they’ll be within a 25 minute drive of We-Ko-Pa Casino Resort. Don’t say we never did anything for you.
The Cubs, Rockies, Angels, Giants, Dbacks and A’s are close enough to catch any home game at any park while staying at
We-Ko-Pa Casino Resort. The remaining nine teams play a ton of games at each of those parks. Here they are!
