When you’re teeing it up at We-Ko-Pa, it’s easy to notice the lack of noise pollution that clouds most of the Valley. The warm silence of nature and its uncanny ability to aid focus, and help a few off the toe find their way to the cup, makes everything feel a little closer to home. At We-Ko-Pa, it’s mostly about feeling connected, which is why we’ve taken an interesting spin on a popular game about an ever shrinking world: Six Degrees of Separation – We-Ko-Pa Golf Club.
If you’re not familiar with the game – or its alias: Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon – the goal is to connect two things in a maximum of six steps. It’s often played with two people, but for our case, we’ll connect a person, place or thing to We-Ko-Pa Golf Club in no more than six degrees. That is, if you’ll cut us just a little bit of slack.
Since every golf fan is eager to see what he has in store for his loyal fan base after a tough couple years, today’s topic will be an easy one – Mr. Tiger Woods.
Tiger Woods is a Stanford Alum whose Ryder Cup coach and fellow Cardinal was none other than Mr. Tom Watson. Huck was genuinely the best of friends with Arnold Palmer. The King attended Wake Forest with one of golf’s most celebrated contemporary golf course designers, Bill Coore. And Mr. Coore was half of the dynamic duo who designed Arizona’s No. 1 course: Saguaro at We-Ko-Pa Golf Club.
That Was Easy. This Is Harder.
Tiger Woods’ first career PGA TOUR victory took place at the 1997 Las Vegas Invitational at the Bobby Weed designed TPC Summerlin. Mr. Weed studied under Pete Dye, one of the greatest designers of the 20th century. Dye won the Old Tom Morris Award in 2003 and shares this honor with the 1997 winner, Ben Crenshaw. And Crenshaw was the other half of the Coore Crenshaw Inc. design team responsible for the Saguaro course at We-Ko-Pa Golf Club.
