A lot of planning and pride goes into operating Arizona’s best golf facility. From outside service staff to front-office management and the surrounding Fort McDowell Yavapai nation, We-Ko-Pa Golf Club has an amazing team dedicated to providing the best possible golf experience and service to its guests. To highlight the time and effort required to maintain such a high level enterprise, Cox Media’s YurView Arizona took the time to sit down with Eric Dettman, head golf professional at We-Ko-Pa Golf Club, and President Bernadine Burnette of the Fort McDowell Yavapai Nation.
“It gives me a sense of pride to be the head golf professional here at We-Ko-Pa, but it’s really a testament to the team, to the tribal nation and to the support we’re able to get to run the golf course and to make it a beautiful place,” said Eric Dettman. “One thing that differentiates We-Ko-Pa from all the other golf courses in the Valley is it’s truly no residential. When you’re out here, you’re experiencing true desert golf.”
President Burnette told YurView Arizona how much the golf course positively impacts the surrounding Fort McDowell Yavapai Nation.
“As far as benefits, of course, income from the golf course serves needs in our community. One of those huge needs is education,” said President Burnette. “The golf course funds education; it funds homes. Plus, our people have a chance to work at all levels at We-Ko-Pa giving them a sense of ownership.”
