We-Ko-Pa Golf Club’s Saguaro Course has reopened after a brief bunker renovation over the summer. All of the bunkers on Arizona’s No.1-ranked golf course now have brand new sand and revamped drainage lines to ensure the best quality and playing conditions possible.

“The preemptive maintenance we performed on Saguaro is a commitment to our players and guests to make sure they have the best golf experience available,” said Matt Barr, General Manager of We-Ko-Pa Golf Club. “We’re thrilled the process went smoothly, and we’re extremely happy with the results.”

The bunker renovation was strictly preventative and did not include any changes to the layout or the iconic Coore Crenshaw design. New sand – which is a mixture of Augusta White and Arizona Gold – and drainage for all bunkers significantly improves playability and prevents pooling, safeguarding against bad lies in the sand.

“The Sonoran Desert just outside Scottsdale is an extremely dynamic environment, and over time things like rocks and sticks get into the sand and stop it from draining,” said Ryan Kreizenbeck, Director of Maintenance for We-Ko-Pa Golf Club. “The course will play much better – especially out of the greenside bunkers – because they will drain properly. We’re excited to have our players back out there.”
